Being in Washington, D.C., this week is like being locked inside an echo chamber with loudspeakers playing “It’s a Small World” on a continuous feed.
Regardless of your political sympathies, having all four branches of government heaping uncritical adulation on your head of state is bad for you.
And bad for the incoming head of state. Love and hate are flipsides of the same coin. Care to wager on how soon some of his bandwagon supporters jump off?
I have to say the coverage is a bit cultish. Wait, his supporters are a bit cultish. Then again, my commute this morning was the easiest in years. Nobody was on the roads. So, thanks for at least that much.
Should we give it a month before the excitement wears off? I have one supporter in my office. Her eyes nearly popped out of her head when I mentioned that the price of cigarettes is going to rise dramatically. When she asked why, I pointed out that this new President is going to sign a bill raising taxes on them. All of a sudden it was ok. Lets see how OK it is when she has to start paying for them….
