Lankov and Klingner on NK Succession

At the Daily NK, two of the more sober and best-informed analysts offer some fairly scary prognostications (Klingner here, Lankov here).  I tend to agree with the idea that we’re going to see more instability there.  I’ve been saying that for a long time, but I also expect things to accelerate soon.  No one could have imagined that Libya and Syria would become unstable a year ago, and just look at those places now.  The more repressive the regime, the more suddenly and violently discontent erupts, seemingly from nowhere.  Of course, anything that’s hidden from the Associated Press always seems to come from nowhere.

  1. Unlikely. China does not want a NK collapse, the idea of the US 2ND Infantry Division patrolling the Yalu doesn’t have a great deal of appeal. SK does not want a collapse, the idea of 22 million, dirt poor, backwards NK’s, all looking to the SK govt for a handout is not enticing. The unofficial policy in both countries is “All Hail, and long life to Kim Jong Un!”.

  2. Thank god that this murder dictator of NK I’d DEAD. The NK leader killed more then 3 million of his own people and many more starved from famine and numerous diseases all thanks to this maniac leader may his name be erased. Amen

  3. f’ing EUREKA!!!!

this whole time with the live feed that p’yang’s been letting out, there’s just been something that seems so familiar about the new porcine one.

    i’ve finally nailed it.

he’s f’ing the live north korean version of Cartman.

please oh please, i can’t wait for trey stone and matt parker’s creativity.

  4. It’s most likely a ZIL. This was a manufacturer who made limo’s for the elite, err sorry… defenders of the people. North Korea could have made it, but their passenger cars are so dreadful, that on a plain old badge engineered 80’s Merc they managed to make the doors come off. On the ZIL windows weigh over a whopping 200 kilograms! I don’t know how many metre’s long this beast is, but that’s usually the only way to tell the models apart. From dreadful, dreadfuller and of course the dreadfullest!

This is the website giving you the specs of what would relatively be this car, pay in mind this is a ‘modern’ version which only stopped production in 2002 because there is no market for a 3rd rate Russian kinda Roller kinda not. Some say it’s got air conditioning, but that’s a little too much for a luxury car don’t you think? Dear Leader keeps my soul cool with his magic powers.

  6. Actually sorry Dan. I initially thought it was Russian but it’s actually AMERICAN! I didn’t think they used capitalist stuff but I saw Mercedes-Benz cars in the procession. It’s a 5th Generation Lincoln Continental! I think there is no more spare parts available for dodgy Soviet Cars any more so they have moved to Lincoln and Mercedes most likely because you can buy parts from the west and they are WAY MORE RELIABLE and have more in them.

  7. We really need MST3K (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MST3K aka Mystery Science Theater 3000) to analyze this celebration. Ideally, they would start with complete gavel-to-gavel KCT funeral coverage without the color commentary, and then proceed. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0XmYeinsTk for a sample of that raw material. Hell – if NK strung out the celebration for two whole days, MST3K could have gotten an entire season out of it. Don’t worry about copyright, because NK is a progressive, post-intellectual property society with Leaders – sorry, a Leader – that moved beyond archaic capitalist notions. After a while, it did look like the studio audience members closest to the cameras range seemed most upset. Studio audience boredom increased with increased camera distance. The producers needed more PA’s to cover this.

I’m a little upset that KJI’s posse had modern Benzes, but the show producers stuck KJI himself on the roof of an ancient hoopty. Also: for his own last ride, Lenin got a packing box with a sun roof. You’ll see it starting at about 1:20 in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=oStHN2xwWeE). KJI did not get a sun roof, so they dissed him . . .

Thanks for that link. I love that KJI-mobile so much and welcome any footage I can get. Are there any hi-res images of it out there?

  9. The brutal NK murderer is dead for good thank god, when will the gulag doors open for the oppressed NK people?
