The International Herald Tribune has published a new piece on the North Korean refugee who applied to go back to visit his family–the same one Antti blogged about earlier. HT: The Nomad.

The Nomad also links to a Yonhap report on another sad end for a group of nine North Korean refugees in China–including a seven-year-old child and a year-old baby.

After nine painful and nauseating anthrax shots, now they tell us:

North Korea Monday denied possessing ‘a single biological weapon’ and said it is committed to honoring international agreements on the development of biological
agents.”

On the one hand, a massive arsenal technically isn’t “a single biological weapon.” On the other hand, our own intel guys don’t appear very sure, either. So feel free to believe whichever North Korean statement best suits you.

A carefully parsed statement from the World Food Program:

North Korea has not requested the closure of a World Food Program (WFP) office in its capital Pyongyang, a WFP spokesman in Beijing said Saturday.

Gerald Bourke also claimed the communist country has never requested the U.N. organization halt its humanitarian activities in the North.

A little later, you read the Bourke doesn’t really deny that the North Korean government is about to stop accepting food aid, and Bourke doesn’t explain why. The WFP has been fiercely denying this story from the first, and yet it has unusual persistence, thanks to the North Korean repetitions.

For twenty-five years, I’ve wanted to know how this works. Lives, you must get. Now, you must get them.

This is the most asinine thing I’ve seen since I was forced to watch “Mrs. Doubtfire.

Kim, who is also spokesman for the inter-Korean Cabinet talks, cited “substantial progress” in the six-nation talks on the North’s nuclear weapons program as a reason to put forward the agenda.

Roh reminds me of a girl who’s been going with the same guy for seven years and then, for no particular reason, tries to drag him down to the Mikasa to pick out china patterns.

He doesn’t love you, already!!
